I recieved the El Prezidino EP “The Warning” in the mail today. A rapper from South Philly who played football and went to school in VA and WV. The bill that came with the CD as a rapper with a positive message and a Christian. I gotta tell you, I was approached to review the CD by Dino’s management and I heard some tracks on his myspace and the only thing negative I have to say about this CD is that it doesn’t include “Haterz” from his myspace page.
He raps like a little slower Kanye West, but much as a lot of Kanye’s tracks are inspirational (I swear, take a listen) Prezidino’s are as well. He talks a lot about politics and christianity. He mentions rapping to the rap fans and not church’s to get his message across.
El Prezidino is refreshing, the beats are decent and his rhymes are complex and thoughtful. He has a So. Philly connection which shows in his style, but, it also has West Coast appeal as well. “I got South Philly DNA but the place I call home is VA” from Where I Came From (South South Philly) — as with any rapper/self promoter El is a tad boastful, which I suppose is vital these days with rap, but, it’s his introspective rapping that appeals to me. I’d like to see El on the bill with other Philly bands, I think he’d appeal to rock fans who love anything Philly. I’d love to have him split a bill with my band in Philly. (what do you say prez?) He’d also appeal to kids who like rap but don’t want the violence, sexism, drugs and greed in most modern rap. With a better producer El should go far. Will he? If I were El, I’d try to get signed to a Christian label. It’s a smaller audience, but a the niche is big enough to make him a star amongst that set. I’d leave off the interview segments, but, I dislike most skitz and filler on most rap CDs.
Check him out. I love the El Prezidino CD. (and go to his myspace and download Haterz now)
